AI Fishing Shirt Design: Great for Inspiration, Not Quite Ready for Production

There’s no denying that AI has completely changed the way people create.

These days, tools like ChatGPT and AI image generators can produce some pretty impressive fishing shirt concepts in just a few minutes. Whether you're designing fishing shirts, workwear, team uniforms, event merchandise or something completely unique, AI makes it easier than ever to get your ideas out of your head and into a visual sample.

And honestly? We think that's a great thing.

At LJM Design, we love seeing the creativity that AI inspires. In fact, more and more customers are coming to us with AI-generated concepts as the starting point for their projects.

AI is fantastic for brainstorming ideas, exploring different styles, and helping people visualise concepts they may have struggled to explain in the past. It allows you to experiment, refine your ideas, and quickly see what's possible.

But while AI is an incredible source of inspiration, it's important to remember that a great concept image isn't a print-ready fishing shirt.

Where AI Falls Short

AI is brilliant at creating concepts, but it doesn't understand how a shirt is actually manufactured.

It doesn't know where panels join together, how artwork needs to align across seams, or what happens when a flat image is transformed into a wearable garment.

That's why AI-generated artwork often contains little surprises such as:

  • Distorted logos and text
  • Inconsistent patterns and graphics
  • Elements that don't line up correctly
  • Low-resolution elements
  • Fish that look... well... nothing like the species they're supposed to be (We've seen plenty of AI-generated barramundi that would leave even the most experienced angler scratching their head!)

A design might look amazing on your phone or computer screen, but once it reaches the production stage, those issues become very obvious.

Why Professional Design Still Matters

We've been designing and manufacturing custom fishing shirts since 2013, so we know exactly what is required to turn a concept into a finished product.

Before a shirt can be printed, the artwork often needs to be completely recreated using professional design software. AI-generated images can't simply be pulled apart, edited, resized, or adjusted the way proper artwork can.

Our in-house graphic designer recreates and refines the artwork to ensure:

  • Crisp, high-quality graphics
  • Correct logo reproduction
  • Proper panel alignment
  • Production-ready files suitable for manufacturing

This step is incredibly important because what looks great on a screen doesn't always translate perfectly into print.

Using AI artwork without proper preparation can result in pixelated graphics, colour variations, alignment issues, and a finished product that doesn't match your expectations.

The Best Results Come From Combining AI and Experience

Rather than seeing AI as a replacement for designers, we see it as another tool in the toolbox.

The magic happens when AI-generated inspiration is combined with real-world design experience and manufacturing knowledge.

You get the speed and creativity of AI, along with the technical expertise needed to turn that concept into a shirt you'll actually be proud to wear.

Got an AI-Generated Design? We'd Love to See It.

Whether you have an AI-generated fishing shirt concept, a screenshot from ChatGPT, a rough sketch, or simply an idea you've been playing around with, we can help bring it to life.

Our experienced in-house graphic designer can assess your artwork, make any necessary adjustments, and recreate it into professional files that are ready for manufacturing.

So if you've been experimenting with AI and have created something you'd like turned into a real fishing shirt, send it through to admin@ljmdesign.com.au

We'll help bridge the gap between a great idea and a great shirt.
