Why We Charge a Design Fee
One question we're asked is why there's a design fee when customers have already created an AI concept.
The answer is simple.
AI provides the inspiration. Lachy provides the expertise.
Rather than placing an AI image onto a shirt template, Lachy must spend time recreating the artwork, refining layouts, sourcing premium graphics, replacing AI-generated elements where needed and preparing professional production files.
Our custom design fee starts from $149, which includes approximately one hour of dedicated design time and one round of minor revisions.
If your concept is particularly detailed or requires major changes, additional design time may be required. We'll always discuss this with you before any additional work is completed.
Our goal isn't simply to copy your AI concept—it's to make it even better.
Think of Your Design Like a Puzzle
One of the biggest misconceptions about AI artwork is that it's a single printable image.
In reality, every design is made up of individual pieces.
While AI creates the overall picture, Lachy still needs to source or recreate each high-resolution element before your shirt can be professionally printed.
The good news is we already have an extensive library of premium graphics, including fish, textures, backgrounds and design elements.
However, if your design includes something unique, you'll need to provide a high-resolution version.
For example:
Your business or club logo
A specific boat, vehicle or person
A local landmark or attraction
Custom illustrations or artwork we don't already have
The more detailed the AI concept, the more time is required to recreate those individual pieces. Occasionally, an exact match isn't available, so your final proof may differ slightly while still capturing the overall style and feel of your original concept.
Our aim? To be even better than AI.
